Energy and Environment

In collaboration with RRS and UNHCR, ANE continued on Environmental Protection and Energy activitiesin Dillo & Megado Refugee Camps, Oromia Regional State, between 2015 to 2019 budge years. In this program, seedlings were planted in both refugee camps to reduce deforestation and environmental degradation. In additions, ANE provided four trainings to raise awareness on environment protection. This project also included provision of energy saving stoves for refugee beneficiaries identified over the joint selection made by RRS, UNHCR, ANE and Refugee Management Structures.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES

Starting from the 2020 budget year, ANE has been a partner organization for both RRS and UNHCR in implementing sustainable energy solutions for refugees in all camps of Assosa, Afar and Dabat/Debark Operations. Under this program, ANE is apparently outshining in mainstreaming standard, quality and timely monthly distributions of charcoal briquettes, solar lanterns, cooking stoves, legally procured firewood and other source of energy solutions for refugees from Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan and the great lake regions.

Furthermore, ANE is currently responsible humanitarian organization for the construction, care and maintenance of communal kitchens in support of the refugee programs in Afar, Assosa and Dabat Refugee Operations. This is another alternative mechanism to mitigate the risk of refugees facing in accessing energy solution in their daily living condition.

The other key energy intervention ANE is currently executing in Assosa, Dabat and Afar refugee camps is linked with the installation of street solar light systems which significantly contribute to enhance the protection of refugees in general.

The most dynamic and constructive sectorial humanitarian interventions and experiences of ANE was also magnified as it had successfully managed the environment protection programs supporting the Eritrean refugees’ situation in Berehale and Assayta Refugee Camp in two consecutive budget years of 2020 and 2021. Linked with the energy program as part of the crosscutting issue, ANE had done a lot of activities of rehabilitation of environment settings, plantation and taking care of seedlings, raising series of awareness programs on environment protection etc., among the others.
